Chief Instructors News IRB EXAM - PIHA- 25 OCTOBER 2008
On a cold
overcast Saturday, Ryan Oxborrow, Hayden Conmee and Jamie Love travelled
down to Piha to complete the final component of their IRB Drivers Award.
This day is was the culmination of an intensive training process, beginning
with an IRB Intro School, where the basics of IRB driving were learnt,
followed by a minimum of 10 hours boat time at the club. Following club
training, a Northern Region run "Finishing School" was attended, and on
completion of this course, our guards were able to progress on to the
examination.
With the
first SLGA Exam of the season done and dusted, id like to congratulate
Lachie Conmee, John-Michael Hicks and Natalie King on gaining their Surf
Life Guard Award! The surf at Piha was about 1.5-2m and our guys showed the
Heads guards can handle their surf. The majority of the candidates that
needed rescuing were Piha clubbies. One even swallowed a jelly fish, good
effort! I was stationed on the IRB as water safety and got three rescues
(half my quota for the season). Good work guys I look forward to patrolling
with you.
